Jaane Tu..Ya Jaane Na
I have always been a movie freak. I never miss an opportunity to watch a movie at any time available. There are times I feel like seeing intelligent cinema and there are times I just want to push back and watch something that makes me happy! The reason to land up watching this movie was the songs that are already a hit. The reviews for the movie in papers have not been good but I was reading a few blog reviews and I found a majority to have liked it. So I thought “What the heck! Let me check it out!”
I loved it from the beginning till the end. The story line maybe cliché and predictable but the treatment is fresh and good. As I watched the movie I could so much relate to the characters I saw on screen. I saw my college mates and office mates at various instances in the movie. There were those silent, unspoken crushes, thick friend who move apart when they fall in love with other people, couples having a special song, and so many more.
I looked around me and there was the entire crowd enjoying each minute of the movie. Everyone was having a roller coaster laughing session. There were also those “Oh so cute” moments in the movie. I seriously wonder whether they make those romantic and honest type guys anymore.
Overall the star of the movie is Abbas Tyrewala! He wrote the story, script, dialogues, and lyrics and directed the movie. Hats off to him! Imran Khan is good for a debutant. He looks like Aamir in the song sequence where he dresses up in a big mustache ( Remember Aamir in RDB) Genelia seems to have perfected these roles with Bommirillu(Telugu), Santosh Subramanian (Tamil) and now this one. Nasurrudin Shah and Ratna are perfect and hilarious. All in all, I loved the movie and I came out with a smile that still lingers when I think about it. A total entertainer!

Happy Potter Week!!!
So let me start with the bad part. I spend the weekend in the hospital, blood tests, injections...everything possible!! I freaked out as no one could tell me what was wrong with me. To make things worse the attack I had on Tuesday occurred again on Friday early morning. The previous time I did not tell my parents, now I had to. Narrowed down into a blood infection. Now on antibiotics...Wonder what'll happen after the course....
And for now the great news...I have been reading the last and grand finale book of Harry Potter and just finished it. I thought I'll immediately post something because I am just not able to constrict the feeling withing myself. I am feeling out of the world. I was absolutely in a shell during the last 4 days, reading slowly and resisting the urge of going to the last to know what happens.
J.K Rowling rocks! She and Harry have matured beyond words. The book is excellent and beyond comparision. When you thought you have understood and set expectations in your mind about the characters and the author, she defies all...The climax is just too good! All the pieces fall in place...Some pieces that were left unexplained since the first book is finally answered...Some even which I had forgotten surfaced back!!
I am happy I read the book but the feeling that this was the last book lingers. I am sad there is no more...The sense of belonging I had with the book, with the characters who kept me company on many lonely, unpurposeful days... a sense of missing something engulfs me so much. I started reading this book way back in 2002 and now I miss all the moments i spent with the book.
Anyways...all good things must come to an end...I bet this will not stop me from re-reading the book again at those loneful moments. To top it all I watched the movie too. The movie is really good. Difficult to put so many details in a 2 hour movie but a job well done....
Sigh....I miss you Harry....

Children of Heaven
It is an Iranian movie by Majid Majidi that won accolades at the 1997 Montreal Film Festival. Now that info is thanks to Google..A simple movie about a little boy Ali who lost his sister Zahra’s shoes. The entire movie revolves around this theme. There is not much of a story line here but a lot of messages that do not meet the “naked eye”. That is exactly why I waited for a few days before writing this post. I wanted the movie to grow on me before I could comment on it.

Sometimes in life small events can teach us loads. Shouldering responsibility is something the movie teaches. The 2 little kids take the responsibility of the family from their parents so well. Cleaning the house, doing the dishes, cooking, helping in their parents work and also studying so well. Something most of us fail to do so!
The movie shows how we can bring a smile to the face from simple things, like the scene where the kids blow soap bubbles or where they share the pen! Sometimes in life we are so carried away with our tensions that we fail to see little joys…I know I shouldn’t say this as I’m a typical example for such a person!
The movie leaves us with a happy note picturised my mesmorising scene of the fishes in the pond. With all the positive emotions that came from the movie there was a sad one I found. Sometimes even if we win the race we may not be happy and get what we actually want! Happiness is individualistic. A poor man sleeps happy and content with 3 meals a day where a rich guy can be unhappy inspite of all the material riches!!
A must watch movie especially if you are looking fro some simple joys!!!
P.S :This is for you Rajeev...Watch the movie here itself(the first 2 slides)

Soft rain of romance...Mungaru Male
Finally I did manage to get tickets last week. And what a movie!!! It puts you into a different mood of romance altogether. Perfect landscape for romance….Rain, Coorg, chill, water falls….hmm…all so picture perfect. It gave me that feeling of getting drenched in cold rain on a day that was hot and humid so far.

When Silence Speaks...
But yet again the trailer mania struck. Saw the songs of this movie and fell in love with it. After so long there were some songs that didn’t have the same beats and had some meaningful lyrics without English words….My! An achievement for Tamil movies considering the present scenario…Hats Off to Vidyasagar for that!! Even though one song was a lift from his own Malayalam compositions..

The performances are amazing. Jyothika speaks with her eyes with no words at all. She has really evolved as an actress. Prakash Raj is a natural as usual. He carries off the seriousness and humour so easily! All the characters of the movie including Prithvi Raj are so apt and so in control…Not a bit of overaction and underaction too…And most important none of those filler comedians. The humour is so in built…
Storyline…ok let’s be frank…not all that a new concept or anything but dealt with in a different way. As the movie is about the silence of a girl the movie attempts to talk about emotions literally. The characters actually talk out what they feel, why they behave so etc…Hmm…Wonder how many of us can explain why we behave certainly in situations!!
But all in all…definitely a good movie and worth a watch…so I guess that sums up to highly recommended.

Silence is Golden – Nishabd!!
Really can’t say whether the movie was good or bad. But I did think a lot after watching the movie. I thought of the thousands of couples leading a mundane life. I mean these are the ones that are normal in India. An arranged marriage. Just a few years of the honeymoon period. Then kids, work, life, kid’s marriage etc. Couples who somewhere down the line miss the spark in their marriage!
The life that goes so routine. So predictable with no life in it. If you ask are you alive..yes…but really alive …No! Nishabd is such a story. Jia Khan’s love for Big B can be called an infatuation. One that a girl from a shattered home, bought up without knowing love would feel…so that angle does not interest me.
But Big B….leading a life so perfect. Normal wife, normal daughter!! But he misses life…his creative side…his side that wants to scream and break free..A life that even stops him from sucide…Reason: He wants to spend the remaining days of his life thinking of the tender moments he spent with the 18-year-old. Daring stuff!!
It really put me thinking…is there something we kids can do for our parents…to pull them out of their routine life???

Honey Moon Travels
Ok honey is something sweet….so it could be a symbol for the good, sweet time spent at the beginning of married life. But isn’t honey got with a lot of difficulty. Isn’t it associated with bee stings? So does it come along with stings???? So drop that line of thought!!
Now the moon…Fine that does stand for beauty and romance…now I’m really definite on that for all the number of “Chaand” songs in Hindi. But again doesn’t the moon have black spots? Doesn’t it go to the no moon state every 30 days or so??? So what’s up!!! I’m confused!!!
So now that my train of thought fails me I decided to google this out. Nothing that old man Google doesn’t know and I really found some interesting stuff. Check this out!!!
1. The origin of this word date back to the times of Babylon. In order to increase the virility and fertility of the newly-weds, the father of the bride would provide his son in law with all the mead (a honey-based drink) he could drink during the first month of the marriage and therefore "moon".
(Way to go father in laws……..!!!)
2. The word honeymoon has its roots in the Norse word "hjunottsmanathr" which was anything but blissful. Northern European history describes the abduction of a bride from neighboring village. It was imperative, that the abductor, the husband to be, take his bride to be into hiding for period of time. His friends assured his and her safe keeping and kept their whereabouts unknown. Once the bride's family gave up their search, the bride groom returned to his people. This folkloric explanation presumably is the origin of today's honeymoon, for its original meaning meant hiding.
( Hey that’s an exciting game!!!)
3. An otherwise trustworthy reference work claims that "it was the custom in ancient times for a newly married couple to drink a potion containing honey on each of the first thirty days - a moon - of their marriage. Attila, king of the Huns, was reputed to have drunk so heavily of this potion that he died of suffocation." This is yet more fantasy. It is true that the Huns were fond of mead, but Attila died the day before his marriage, not after. He was about to be wed to the 15-year-old daughter of the Mayor of Rome.
(I can only imagine her relief.)
So figure it out for yourself guys...

Guru Cool !!!!

Whether the narration or presentation, the script or dialogue, the cinematography or choreography and mainly the lyrics or music, Guru fails nowhere, absolutely nowhere!
Guru unfolds with the story of a simple young villager, who has the nerve to fly high and the vision to grow. Grow bigger than life itself. Most of us fail to do this(atleast me!!!)
Although Aishwarya Rai doesn't have too big a role to play, she has skilfully displayed the 'strong wife' persona.
While the music is very A R Rehman - foot-tapping and melodic, the lyrics prove that they're the work of a creative mind, Gulzaar.
